- June 2009: His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, inaugurates Phase 1 of Emirates Steel’s AED 9 billion expansion plan

- January 2006: GHC launches the Phase 1 Expansion program involving the purchase and construction of 1.6 MTPA Direct Reduction Plant (DRP), 1.4 MTPA Steel Melt Plant (SMP), 0.62 MTPA Rebar Rolling Mill (RM2), 0.48 MTPA Wire Rod and Coil Rolling Mill (RM3), together with associated infrastructure and facilities
- October 2001: The initial plant (RM1) was commissioned with a design capacity of 500,000 metric tons per annum (MTPA)
- 1998: Emirates Iron and Steel Factory (EISF) established as an unincorporated business directly controlled by GHC to satisfy the growing demand for quality steel products for the construction sector in the UAE
