Different accident categories, including Lost Time Injury (LTI), have been reduced to a minimum as the Company has adopted a proactive safety culture, involving and encouraging our staff to report potential near misses and other incidents: reports which are acted upon to mitigate the risks of recurrence. In addition, various health and safety training programs and campaigns have been developed to promote industry best practice and raise safety awareness.

A comprehensive approach to identify hazards through analysis, risk assessment, environmental audit, and regular site inspections, has been adopted, and a risk-based safety management system has been put in place to provide a frame-work for self-regulation and continuous performance improvement.

Emirates Steel is committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees and recognizes occupational health as an integral part of its business performance. The Company is also committed to continued compliance to all environmental regulations, to protect present and future human wellbeing in our local environment. Our employees are educated in the rules of environmental compliance required by our Company, and are trained to respond, if necessary, to any threat to the environment. All of Emirates Steel`s facilities are being developed to reduce our environmental footprint.

Over the years, the Company has improved its processes and controls, invested capital to increase efficiency and decrease energy use, and fostered a culture of resourcefulness and accountability. Emirates Steel will be one of the first steel companies in the world to sequestrate CO2 on a large scale. Together with other energy reduction initiatives, this will provide the Company with one of the lowest carbon footprints compared to any integrated steel plant in the world.
